The Ultimate Guide to Identifying your Face Shape

The Ultimate Guide to Identifying your Face Shape

One of the best ways to boost self-esteem is to feel confident about your face. Our faces project so much out into the world and often leave others with lasting impressions. For this reason, it is essential to understand your face shape and how to work with it. When you know your face shape, you can select the best makeup techniques, hairstyles, and even accessories like hats, earrings, and sunglasses.

Once you know your face shape, you will have the most simple and basic beauty foundation figured out! You can select the right styling techniques to enhance your features, confidence, and smile! In this post, we’re going to show you how you can quickly and easily identify your face shape. Let’s jump right into it.

3 Steps To Identifying Your Face Shape

Step #1. Take a Picture Of Your Face

The very first thing you need to do is grab your smartphone or camera. Next, pull or pin your hair back off of your face, and remove any accessories like earrings. You will then take a selfie (or a close-up snapshot of your face in the mirror if you’re using your camera, just keep the flash off!). The main tip here is to ensure you are taking the picture head-on and not at an angle.

Step #2. Print Your Picture

It’s important that you are able to draw on your picture. If you don’t have a printer or you can’t go to a local print shop, simply upload your image into a photo editing app. As long as you’re able to draw on it with a pen, or electronically, you’re good to go.

Step #3. Trace Your Face

This last step requires you to mark the top, bottom, and sides of your face. Simply place a dot at the top of the forehead at the hairline, one on the bottom of your chin, and two at each side of the face at the temples. Next, go ahead and connect the dots, outlining your face. This should give you a very clear geometric shape.

And Some Last Minute Tips…

Before we continue, please keep these measuring tips in mind!

Face Length

To understand your face length, look at the line from the top of the hairline to the lowest part of your chin.

Forehead Width

The forehead width will be the distance across the center of your forehead, from hairline to hairline.

Jawline Width

The jawline width is the horizontal length of the jawbone, just below your ear and down to the center of your chin.

Cheekbone Width

This is the measurement from the highest point of each cheekbone and across your face.

So, What’s The Verdict? Do You have…

An Oval Face Shape

If your face length is longer than it is wider, and you have a curved jawline and slightly narrower than your forehead, you have an oval face shape.

A Heart Face Shape

If your forehead appears wider than your jawline, your chin is pointy, and you have a widow’s peak, you fall into the heart shape category.

A Diamond Face Shape

If you have a wider forehead than your jawline, a pointy chin, and your hairline narrows to one end, you have a diamond face shape.

A Square Face Shape

If your face is equally as long as it is wide, your forehead and your jawline are the same width, your chin is less pointed than the other shapes, and you have a square jawline, then you have a square face shape.

A Round Face

Last but not least, a round face is very similar to a square face shape as both width and length are the same, but you have a rounded jawline.

Now that you have at least a general idea of what face shape category you are in, in the next few posts, we’ll look at some ways you can use your face shape to your advantage. Stay tuned!
