Sunday Dress Code

Sunday best dressed

I love everything about old movies, such as Gone with the Wind. In addition to the acting and storylines, the dress codes in those old movies stand out to me in a positive way. Unlike what you see today, the producers put a lot of thought into the clothes they used for the actors and actresses. Many people have lost touch with that sense of class in the modern world, and I would like to see it come back, especially on Sundays.

When you plan your Sunday outfit before heading to church, ask yourself whether you would wear it to meet the king or queen. Are T-shirts, shorts, and flip-flops acceptable when you are going to visit the king of kings? I am not saying that those items are always unacceptable, but you should have a little more self-respect when it comes to your Sunday attire.

If you would like to wear a T-shirt, make sure it does not reveal too much skin. Make sure your shorts go down to at least your knees so that you can show others you have respect for them and yourself. Since each part of your outfit speaks of who you are and what you believe in, it’s important you send the right message when you go out.

Every item in your wardrobe has a time and place, and you want to show the world that you know what to wear on different occasions. The church is a place of worship and respect. Rather than being about showing off your fashion sense, going to church is about showing thanks and gratitude to the ruler of the universe.

Some people seem to have a hard time grasping this concept, but you don’t want to repeat their mistake. Also, you represent the members of your congregation each time you attend a church meeting, so you must think about the image you are presenting of yourself and other members.

I truly believe in this. I feel there is nothing wrong with being the best dressed in the crowd. Perfect example: my daughter and I went to go an open house for a private high school. She wore a dress and a small block heel shoe with a lovely overcoat. She was complimented by so many of the administration as well as the students helping out that day ( the school requires a uniform). Many of the families that attended this open house were wearing less than desireable attire ( in my opinion). Sweat pants, slippers and ripped jeans were worn not only by potential students for this high school but parents as well. My husband wore a shirt and jacket and khaki pants and I dressed up as well. I was in shock at how casual the visitors to this school were dressed.
