As a personal stylist, you provide your male clients with the perfect wardrobe to fit any situation and give them the confidence to feel like their best selves.

With the rise of social media and the pressures to maintain a good image, it is becoming more common for men to enlist the help of a professional to save time, money, and the hassle of selecting robust fashion garments that match and mix.

After all, DRESSING WELL DOES REQUIRE SOME SKILL AND SATORIAL KNOW-HOW. The question is, how exactly do you figure out what their style personalities are?

Let’s dive right in.

What is a Style Personality?

A style personality refers to how individuals express themselves through clothing choices, hairstyles, and accessories. Personal stylists and image consultants use style personality profiles to help create cohesion and harmony and a wardrobe that suits individuals.

They assess a client based on a combination of personality and physical attributes, as well as personal preferences. A style personality profile suggests which cuts, fabrics and details bring out a client’s best self.

At the beginning of a client’s style transformation, it can be helpful to FOCUS ON ONE STYE PERSONALITY AS A BASE, even though you may utilize aspects from two to three personality styles.

It’s also important to remember personal style is constantly developing; life experiences play a huge part in how we dress.

The 6 Different Style Personalities

Most men fall into one of six basic style personalities, although it’s uncommon to overlap between two to three:

  • Romantic/Passionate: Bow, ruffles, appliques, prints and colors are adored by those with a romantic style. These men prefer billowy clothing with gentle curves made from lightweight materials that flow and drape gracefully.
  • Classic/Sophisticated: A classic person conveys an approach of authority; clean and sleek, they like to be trusted, they are reliable and loyal if you need a job done. Classic personalities are drawn to timeless pieces and structured silhouettes. Fussy prints, fashion trends and gaudy pieces are a no-no to them. They prefer staple pieces such as blazers, crisp white shirts, dark denim and masculine-inspired outerwear.
  • Creative/Original: Creative people like their clothes in unique unexpected combinations. Creatives are always looking to express themselves through their clothing. They’re particularly fond of mixing vintage finds with purchases from the high street, online and high-end brands. For them, shopping and fashion is a form of art.
  • Dramatic/Striking: Dramatic people like to be noticed and to be the center of attention. Those with dramatic personalities are drawn to eye-catching clothing that makes a statement. They favor bright, bold colors and fashionable graphic prints. Their wardrobes are filled with modern pieces that are flamboyant, vibrant and full of flair.
  • Natural/Sporty: The natural personalities are very friendly, modest and always look at the brighter side. Natural personalities gravitate towards easy-to-wear outfits with simple and comfortable designs, typically made from organic materials like leather, suede, wool or cotton. They enjoy muted, earthy colors and cuts that make them comfortable and relaxed.
  • Sensual/Alluring: Sexy men’s styles are glamorous seductive and sensual. sensual people could be body hugging or slender in body form, the look gives one message, and the message is exciting and compelling to others. This dress style is sensual and provocative. Their fabrics often have glitter and shine in them. Many are in animal prints with low-cut tops.

3 Ways to Identify a Man’s Style

Building a sense of style is a process reliant on different steps and considerations:

1. Identify Your Client’s Body Type

Depending on a man’s figure, some styles, cuts, sizes, and fabrics are more becoming.

Generally, there are three basic body types:

  • Endomorphic Body:
A softer and rounder physique. Often, these men have larger waist circumferences and carry weight around their waist, hips, and thighs.
  • Mesomorphic Body:
A highly-muscular and well-defined body type that’s strong and athletic.
  • Ectomorphic Body:
A lean and long body with a slight build. Ectomorphic bodies are naturally slim, even when eating well and exercising.

“Being perfectly well-dressed gives one a tranquility that no religion can bestow.”

2. Discuss Your Client’s Lifestyle

A CLIENT’S LIFESTYLE AFFECTS THE FASHION CHOICES THEY MAKE. For instance, someone in a rural area would likely dress in more durable fabrics such as cotton and denim. In contrast, someone living in an urban setting might prefer garments that are made from synthetic fibers.

Furthermore, men with particular religious beliefs or job roles will wear garments that adhere to their moral values or work dress codes. Having honest dialogue around these topics ensures the wardrobe you assemble suits a client’s lifestyle.

3. Determine Their Natural Coloring

COLOR IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS WHEN IT COMES TO STYLING. There’s a reason some people look great in lime green while others appear pale and sickly.

It comes down to skin undertones, which can be grouped into three categories: warm, relaxed, and neutral. This falls into color theory – an art and design principle to do with the principles and applications of color.
