Find a harmonious blend of style, sophistication, and seasonal flair.

Tis’ the season of yuletide cheer and festive dressing. While it may be the TIME TO SPARKLE, choosing the perfect holiday look can be challenging. From glamorous soirees to office parties and dinners, let’s unwrap the secrets of what to wear so you can effortlessly decide when the moment arrives.

Decoding Dress Etiquette

Throughout history, dress codes have reflected social structures, preserved tradition, and responded to economic and technological changes. Today’s dress codes range from casual to black tie, setting the tone and atmosphere of events.

Here are some suggestions for each:

Casual

  • Men: Jeans or casual pants, a t-shirt, a polo shirt, or a casual button-down shirt.
  • Women: Jeans, casual pants, skirts, sundresses, or a casual top.

Smart Casual/ Business Casual

  • Men: Dress pants or khakis with a dress shirt, polo shirt, or sweater. A blazer is optional.
  • Women: Dress pants, skirts, or dresses with a blouse or stylish top. A blazer or cardigan is optional.

Business Formal / Professional

  • Men: Business suit, dress shirt, tie, and dress shoes
  • Woman: Business suit, dress or skirt with a blouse, or a professional dress.
    (Closed-toe shoes are typically preferred.)

Cocktail Attire

  • Men: A dark suit, dress shirt and tie, and dress shoes.
  • Women: A knee-length cocktail dress or chic blouse with a skirt or dress pants.

Formal

  • Men: A dark suit or tuxedo, dress shirt, and tie, and black dress shoes.
  • Women: A formal evening gown, cocktail dress, or a dressy long skirt with an elegant top.

Black Tie

  • Men: A black tuxedo, black bow tie, a formal white shirt, and black dress shoes.
  • Women: A formal evening gown or a long, elegant dress. Statement jewelry and formal accessories are optional.

What to Wear to Different Occasions

Whether it’s a formal affair, a casual get-together, or themed celebration, below are some sartorial suggestions to enhance your style and help you LEAVE A LASTING IMPRESSION at every turn:

A Dinner Party

Gauge your outfit by the invitation.

What to wear: The identity of your hosts, the location, and whether it’s a special occasion influence what you wear. There isn’t a universal correct response – dress too formal or casual, and you’ll feel out of place. If the invitation isn’t explicit, then it’s best to ask the host so you can gauge the level of formality and adapt your attire accordingly.

A Company Party or Business Dinner

Keep things professional and tailored to the event.

What to wear: Your workplace dress code should guide your choices. For business dinners, consider office-appropriate attire. Trousers paired with a refined sweater, blouse, shirt, and blazer work well for men and women.

Women may wear a wrap dress or suit with evening-appropriate shoes if transitioning to a work party directly from the office. Meanwhile, men can remain in their business suits but lose the tie or button-down for a more relaxed evening setting.

A “Festive Attire” Party

Get dressed up with a bit of fun.

What to wear: Festive attire offers a range of options, from chic tops with dress slacks to vibrant dresses. If you’re out of inspiration, pair a classic little black dress with an elegant clutch and sparkling accessories.

Men can opt for dress slacks and a colored shirt with a stylish blazer. There’s no need to wear traditional red or green – the key is to STRIKE A BALANCE BETWEEN STYLISH AND CELEBRATORY without being constrained by traditional holiday motifs and colors.

Holiday Style Tips

If you’re not big on wearing red, green, and gold, you can still elevate your outfits with these suggestions:

  • Comfort is paramount. The holidays are a time for joy and celebration, and feeling at ease with what you’re wearing allows you to fully immerse yourself in the festive spirit.
  • Incorporate textures. Luxurious fabrics like velvet, sequins, and faux fur add visual interest and provide a tactile and cozy feel.
  • Choose a statement piece. Whether it’s a sequined skirt, a bold pair of earrings, or a tie, let one item take center stage while keeping the rest of your look balanced and chic.
  • Wear classic silhouettes. When paired with holiday accessories, a little black dress or a tailored suit allows you to exude sophistication while embracing the seasonal spirit.
